Should I get a blog with wordpress.com or wordpress.org? What’s the difference?

Positive Negative

This is a question is one that often gets asked and the answer is... it depends. A WordPress.com blog is hosted on the WordPress system. This means that you can host a blog free of charge but at the end of the day, WordPress has the final say over what you put on your blog.

For example, WordPress has policies about blogs on their network not being overly promotional. So if you're planning on running a business and promoting goods and services, this may not be the best option for you. If you're just planning on creating a blog for fun and talking about things in general than WordPress.com would be a good choice.

If you're going to run a business, then I would strongly advise getting a self hosted WordPress blog. This means that you have to pay for web hosting and then load the WordPress platform into your system. This can be done by downloading WordPress from www.WordPress.org.

There are some Web hosting providers that offer a one click installation of WordPress through what's called Cpanel. This is definitely my preference because it literally takes just a couple of minutes to install WordPress blog.

The hosting that I use for this blog and my other websites is at Host Gator and I've found them to be really excellent on many levels. The plan that I use is the baby plan and it costs me $9.95 per month for as many websites as I want to host.

I hope that answers your question.
