Steve great article, this is exactly what I teach people, but often times they don't want to hear it.
This is actually how I learned to build my mlm even before I knew about attraction marketing.
I was taught to build a costumer base first, because only if you have that you have an income and you are entiteled to go out into the world and say that you own a business.
Only after the business is working for you and your making money will you become attractive and credible to other people.

Always forward to seeing your writing!

Carolin

Hey there Jim,

As always, it's great to hear from you!

I think a lot of people have made that mistake and in the beginning, I sure did. My first SBI website was called Network Marketing Solutions and now in hindsight I can see that I did not have enough experience to write about that topic on a consistent basis at the time.

I now enjoy writing about attraction marketing out of pure interest and feel totally free to write what ever I want without feeling like I have to worry too much about what the SE's will think. Gary Vaynerchuck is very big on this and actually detests SEO. I guess this is were people have to make the distinction between being a marketer or someone who is just totally and wildly passionate about their topic.

It's interesting because Gary Vee attracts links like crazy because people are really into what he talks about (because he is) and this drives his rankings through the roof. It's a sort of natural SEO I guess you could say.

Ken Evoy has been espousing that people follow their passions and construct search engine friendly sites around that and so that you could say is the best of both worlds.

I know for me I was wanting to make SBI fit into my MLM because I had already selected that based on the opportunity. Looking back I now realize it would have been better to identify something I was passionate about and then choose an mlm that fitted that rather than the other way around. I'm sure this is where many people probably get stuck in the niche research phase, they are most likely restricted by the parameters of their mlm.

Luckily I ended up with a company that fits in with my passion for marketing but I could have short cut that process significantly if I had of listen more closely to Ken Evoy (and of course Mike Klingler) way back then.

I think Lisa and Alicia's RNM/PNM e-book will help people clarify this process.

Cheers,

Steve A.

What a great post. Allow me to add another mistake I have made, which is using the wrong keywords. I've learned that its important to look at both the traffic and the competition.

For instance, "attraction marketing" has over 460,000 competing webpages, but only 325 people are searching for that term daily.

Sometimes adding keyword modifiers (e.g. "attraction marketing tips" or "best attraction marketing") is a good approach, but not always. You sometimes need to drill down and look for a niche (with keywork phrase) that is less competitive, and for which an adequate number of searching.

Thanks again for sharing Stephen!

Hi Steve,

Great post and it looks like it is right on the money. There has been a growing voice out here that internet attraction marketing might have run it's course but as you point out that is mostly due to the niche people are targeting. I fell into the same "trap" so to speak since the bulk of my previous AM marketing efforts were focused on current or former network marketers even though people like Mike Klingler warned against it.

The part of your piece that really caught my attention was the #s of leads generated by Lisa and Alicia since much of the marketing copy associated with the AM training/ed programs gives the impression the flood gates will open.

As always, great insight and a fantastic help (it has already been Tweeted & FB'd) .... Thanks!

Jim H.
